Description

For sample persons age 18 and older in 1994-1995, and, in 1991-1992, sample persons age 18 and older who rated the effectiveness of condoms in preventing AIDS, or didn't rate the effectiveness but knew what condoms are, AIDLUBEBR indicates if the person believes the statement "Oil-based lubricants, like vaseline, cause latex condoms to break" to be true or false.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1991: Sample persons age 18+ who rated the effectiveness of condoms in preventing AIDS or didn't rate the effectiveness of condoms but knew what condoms are.
  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ who rated the effectiveness of condoms in preventing AIDS or didn't rate the effectiveness of condoms but knew what condoms are.
  • 1994-1995: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from Y2K supplement).
