Description
For sample adults and sample children with a current respiratory allergy (CURRESPALG), RESPALLERGY indicates whether they have been diagnosed by a doctor or health professional with hay fever, seasonal or year-round allergies. This is a follow-up question to CURRESPALG. The ordering of these questions is deliberate and is used to distinguish between individuals who self-diagnose and individuals who have been diagnosed by a health professional. Individuals are first asked if they have a current respiratory allergy, if they respond with "yes", they will be then asked if the allergy was diagnosed by a health professional.
Similarly, HAYFEVERYR indicates whether an individual was diagnosed by a doctor or health professional with only hay fever.
For related allergy variables see FALLERGYR.
