Description

For sample adults 40 years or older, COLORECTEV indicates whether the person ever had a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. The NHIS questionnaire text explains that colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy are exams to check for colon cancer and offers the following definitions if necessary:

"Colonoscopy (colon-OS-copy) and sigmoidoscopy (sigmoid-OS-copy) are exams in which a doctor inserts a tube into the rectum to look for polyps or cancer."
