For sample adults, BALDIZEV indicates whether the person has ever had a problem with lightheadedness, feeling as if they are going to pass out or faint, or with unsteadiness or feeling off-balance in their lifetime. The person was instructed to not include times when drinking alcohol.

This variable was part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
