Description

For persons under age 18, SMOKALARNOCH2 reports the number of smoke detectors in the home, with a top code of 10+ smoke detectors. Both working and nonworking smoke detectors are counted. The answer provided by the household sample adult was applied to the person record for any children under age 18 in the household.

Comparability

The question allowed respondents to identify up to 95 smoke detectors in the home; however, only a small number of respondents reported having more than 10 smoke detectors installed. Data users interested in the complete data can use SMOKALARNOCH1.

There are no comparability issues with this variable.
