Description

For sample adults and children in 2012 whose visits to a practitioner for homeopathy in the past 12 months were (at least partly) covered by health insurance, HOMPORT reports whether all or just some of the cost of seeing a practitioner for homeopathy was covered by health insurance.

Homeopathy was one of many alternative health treatment modalities included in the Alternative Health Supplements.

Definitions 

The 2012 Field Representative's Manual defines homeopathy as:

Homeopathy is a system of medical practices based on the theory that any substance that can produce symptoms of disease or illness in a healthy person can cure those symptoms in a sick person. For example, someone suffering from insomnia may be given a homeopathic dose of coffee. Administered in diluted form, homeopathic remedies are derived from many natural sources, including plants, metals, and minerals.

Field representatives were advised to "feel free to offer [this definition] even if the respondent has not requested [it]."
