Description
For persons with a private insurance plan whose policyholder is on the family roster but whose plan covers a child or children not in the household, HIP1KIDNOOUT reports (for the first plan) the number of children covered by the plan who live outside the household.
The NHIS provides data for the first two private insurance plans reported. Individuals with more than two private plans have a "2" reported for the variable HIPRIVGT2.
This variable can be used to monitor the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
