Description

For sample persons ages 18 and older who have at least five full siblings who have been diagnosed by a doctor with cancer for which the sample person gave a valid cancer code, SIB5YOB reports the year that the sample person's fifth sibling with cancer was born.

Versions of this variable are available for one to five full siblings who were ever diagnosed with cancer. Please use the drop down menu and search function for related variables.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues with this variable.

Universe

  • 1987: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from CACT) who have at least 5 siblings (or an unknown number of siblings), for whom any siblings have been diagnosed with cancer, and whose fifth sibling reported as having known cancer has a valid cancer code.
