Description
LAHMELEV indicates whether the person's home had been equipped with elevators or lifts to accommodate the respondent's disability.
LAHMELEV was introduced in 1977 as part of a supplement on disability. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
Comparability
Universe changes reduce comparability over time. In 1977, the universe for LAHMELEV is persons with a disability age three and older for whom changes had been made to the house due to their disability. In this year, a "yes" response is indicated in the event that the house was bought with these features. In 1990, the universe for this variable is all persons who completed the assistive devices questionnaire. Please see the Universe tab for more details.
