Description
For sample adults, REDMEATMNO reports how many times the respondent consumed red meat in a specified time period. This includes beef, pork, ham, or sausage. It does not include chicken, turkey, or seafood. REDMEATMNO should be used in conjunction with REDMEATMTP, which reports the corresponding time units stated by the respondent.
REDMEATMNO is part of a series of variables related to food, food knowledge, and cancer.
Comparability
In 2005, the food frequency question format of separate frequency and time units was not used; instead respondents' answers were organized into pre-defined categories. Researchers interested in using all years of available data may consider seeing the 2005 variable REDMEATMO, and modifying REDMEATMNO and REDMEATMTP to correspond to the pre-defined categories from 2005.
There are no comparability issues with REDMEATMNO when used on its own.
