Description

For persons aged 5 and older who had schizophrenia, paranoid or delusional disorder, manic episodes or manic depression, major depression, severe personality disorder, Alzheimer's or other senile disorder, alcohol abuse disorder, drug abuse disorder, mental retardation, or other serious mental or emotional disorder in the past 12 months, CMISTRESS reports the level of difficulty the person has in coping with day-to-day stress because of his or her mental disorder(s). Response options include "No difficulty," "Some difficulty," "A lot of difficulty," and "Completely unable."

CMISTRESS is part of the Mental Health Supplement in 1989 that collects information on the amount and distribution of illness, its effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the kinds of services people receive.
