Description

For sample persons age 10 and older who had schizophrenia, paranoid or delusional disorder, manic episodes or manic depression, major depression, severe personality disorder, Alzheimer's or other senile disorder, alcohol abuse disorder, drug abuse disorder, mental retardation, or other serious mental or emotional disorder in the past 12 months, CMIHHCH reports whether the sample person can adequately handle doing everyday household chores on his or her own without any help. Everyday household chores include doing dishes, straightening up, or light cleaning.

CMIHHCH is part of the Mental Health Supplement in 1989 that collects information on the amount and distribution of illness, its effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the kinds of services people receive.
