Description
For sample adults, this variable indicates whether the individual uses glasses or contacts to read, write, or "do other things that require you to see well up close, such as cooking, sewing or fixing things." Please see the Universe tab for more information on changes in universe over time.
This variable is included in the Sample Adult Vision Supplement, sponsored by the National Eye Institute.
Comparability
In addition to changes in universe, the NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
