Description
For sample adults who believe that good eating habits reduce disease (EHDEFFECT) and who think that cancer is (probably) related to eating habits (EHDCANCER), EHCANANY indicates whether the respondent believes that "none of these changes would be helpful" in reducing the chances of getting certain kinds of cancer.
To obtain this information, interviewers showed respondents a flash card (or read the contents of the flash card if the interview was conducted by telephone) containing a list of 8 dietary changes. Interviewers then asked, "Which of these would be helpful if a person wanted to reduce his or her chances of getting certain kinds of cancer?" Respondents could select more than one dietary change. Respondents could select more than once dietary change.
EHCANANY is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 related to food, food knowledge, and cancer. For more information please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
