Description

For sample person aged 18 years and over who had heard of fiber, EHFIBCEREAL indicates if the respondent thought there was more fiber in 1 bowl of shredded wheat or 1 bowl of corn flakes. Interviewers read respondents a series of pairs of foods and asked which food the respondent thought had more fiber. Respondents could choose one food, indicate both had the same amount of fiber, or indicate that they were unsure which food had more fiber.

EHFIBCEREAL is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 dealing with food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus or see DIETCHANGEV.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
