Description
For sample persons aged 18 years and over, EHDEFFECT indicates if the respondent agreed that "by eating the right kinds of foods, people can reduce their chances of developing major diseases."
Respondents were asked about which major diseases they thought were related to diet, as well as types of cancer that may be related to diet, and if they had heard or read anything about how diet can help prevent some major diseases.
EHDEFFECT is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 dealing with food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus or see DIETCHANGEV.
