Description
For sample persons ages 18-44 in 1991 and sample person ages 12-21 in 1992, COKAGE1ST2 reports the respondent's age, in years, the first time she or he used cocaine, or if she/he never used cocaine. Response categories are grouped into intervals based on the 1992 question asked of 12-21 year-olds and include less than 8 years old, 9-10 years old, 11-12 years old, 13-14 years old, 15-16 years old, or over 17.
This variable is part of a series of questions on drug and alcohol use. Respondents filled this survey supplement out themselves because of the potentially personal nature of the questions included in the supplement. The interviewer was available to provide assistance if requested. The supplement includes detailed questions about cocaine (COKABUSEYR), marijuana (MJABUSEYR), and general questions about use of hallucinogens, inhalants, heroin, painkillers, sedatives, stimulants, and tranquilizers.
