Description
For sample adults, LUNMEANO reports how many times the person ate ham or lunch meat in a specified time period. This includes hams that are "baked, boiled, pressed, smoked or fresh, sliced as deli meat, or as a roast or as ham steak" and "all deli-type sandwich meats like bologna, salami, pastrami, corned beef, roast beef, etc." LUNMEANO should be used in conjunction with LUNMEATP, which reports the corresponding time unit stated by the person. For information about the portion size, see LUNMEASIZ.
In 2010, the variable PROCMEATMNO was introduced, which reports how many times the person ate processed meats, such as bacon, lunch meat, or hot dogs.
LUNMEANO is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 related to food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
