Description

For sample adults age 18 and over, SNUFFSTATUS2 provides recoded responses as to if the respondent used snuff now and if they ever used more 20 times, formerly used it and used it more than 20 times, or never used it more than 20 times.

 

The term "snuff" was respondent defined. The Field Representative's Manual for 1994 mentions that using snuff includes sniffing it or just placing it in the mouth and also notes that interviewers should not include the use of "the new tobacco-less snuff."

Comparability

This variable is only available for 1994.

Universe

  • 1994: Half of sample adults age 18+ (excluded from AIDS supplement) who ever used snuff at least 20 times.
