Description
For sample children under age 18 who have at least twelve specific listed health conditions, KIDCSTAT12 reports the current status of the twelfth condition listed. If it was reported that the child is bothered by the twelfth condition "all the time" or if the child is reported to still have the condition, but it is not completely cured or under control, the response was classified as "still has condition." The Field Representative's Manual defined "under control" as referring to "situations in which persons, by following a certain diet, taking medicine, and so forth, no longer have the symptoms of the condition. However, if they were to stop doing these things, the symptoms might recur." For details on the twelfth condition, see KIDC12.
KIDCSTAT12 was introduced in 1981 as part of the Child Health Supplement. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
