For sample persons age 14 to 21, STDEV indicates whether the respondent had ever been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease.

This question was administered by audio recording and paper. Respondents provided a "Yes" or "No" response to the question, "Have you ever been told by a doctor or nurse that you had a sexually transmitted disease? (Genital herpes, genital warts, chlamydia, syphilis, AIDS, or HIV infection)"
