Description

For sample adults ages 18 and over, BARLACOM reports one or more barriers currently limits or prevents the person's participation in community activities. Examples of community activities given by the questionnaire include getting together with friends or neighbors, going to church, temple, or another place of worship, movies, or shopping.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues with this variable. Respondents reviewed a list of possible barriers to home, school, work, or community activities, and were able to select one or more item from the list. The list of barriers the respondent could choose from included building design, lighting, sound, difficulty using household or workplace equipment, crowds, sidewalks and curbs, transportation, attitudes of other people, policies, or other unspecified barriers.
