Description

For sample adults whose hearing is not "excellent" (HEARING is not equal to "1"), this variable indicates whether respondents had trouble following a conversation if there is background noise. The question clarifies background noise with the example, "when other people are talking, TV or radio is on, or children are playing?" Respondents could answer "always," "usually," "about half the time," "seldom," or "never."
