Description

For sample adults in 2000 who had taken vitamin E during at least 1 month of the past 12 months (VITAMINEMO), VITAMINEDWK reports the number of days per week the respondent had taken vitamin E in those months.

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) used the information recorded in two separate variables--one reporting the time period selected by the respondent (VITAMINETP), and the other reporting the number of days per week or per month reported (VITAMINENO)--to create the new recoded variable VITAMINEDWK with a single time unit of times per week. VITAMINETP and VITAMINENO record responses to the question, "During {the/those} month(s), about how many {days [per week]/days per month} did you take vitamin E?"

Related Variables

The NCHS also used data from VITAMINETP and VITAMINENO to create a second recoded variable with a single time unit, VITAMINEDMO, which reports the number of days per month respondents had taken vitamin E during the relevant months of the past 12 months. VITAMINEDMO is also available for 1992 and 1987, when it was asked as a direct question.
