Description
For sample adults aged 18 and over who have a usual place of care and who saw their provider in the past 12 months, MDSMHADV reports whether, during the past 12 months, the doctor gave the respondent help to quit smoking. Help would include recommending a program to help the respondent quit smoking, counseling, quitting tips, nicotine gum, patch, spray or inhaler, or the non-nicotine medication called Zyban.
MDSMHADV is one of a series of variables dealing with doctor advice. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
