Description
For all persons (except in 1981), GOTSSI indicates if the person received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) at the time of the interview (1978 to 1989), during the month prior to the interview (1990 to 1996), and during the previous calendar year (1997 onward). If necessary, respondents were given the following description of SSI: "Federal SSI checks are either automatically deposited in a bank or mailed to arrive on the first of every month".
