VISITYRNO reports the total number of office visits to see a doctor or other health care professional during the past 12 months.

The survey interviewer specifically instructed the interviewee to exclude overnight hospitalizations, visits to hospital emergency rooms, home visits, or telephone calls. From 2000 forward for sample adults and 2002 forward for sample children, the instructions were expanded to also exclude dental visits.

DOCVIS2W reports if the respondent visited a doctor's office during the two weeks prior to the interview, and DOCVIS2WNO reports the number of office visits during the past two weeks.

Comparability

Apart from changes in the exclusion of dental visits for sample adults (2000 forward) and sample children (2002 forward), the variable is comparable over time.
