Description
For sample children aged 12 to 17 who had a wellness visit but whose most recent doctor's visit was not a wellness visit (DVINTWELL), TIMEALONE reports whether the child had a chance to speak with a doctor or other health professional privately, without a parent or caregiver in the room, at their most recent wellness visit. Along with ALONEDOC, this variable examines the changing care relationships of adolescents as they age.
Definitions
In the 2021 CAPI Manual for NHIS Field Representatives, a wellness visit or general-purpose checkup is "[a visit that] typically includes: blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checks, height and weight measurements, and vaccinations. The doctor or other health professional may also discuss topics related to your health such as smoking, alcohol use, diet and exercise. These visits are usually scheduled in advance and occur when you are not sick or injured."
