Description
For persons ages 5-24 in 1974 and sample children ages 3-17 who have never had their teeth straightened or bands or braces placed on their teeth, THNKTETH records whether the respondent thinks the person's teeth need to be straightened.

Comparability
The age universe changes over time. In 1974, this question is asked about persons ages 5-24 in 1974. In 1981, this question is asked only about sample children ages 3-17. In both years, only persons who have not had their teeth straightened or had bands placed on their teeth are included in the universe.
