Description
For sample persons age 17 and older (1978-1980) and sample persons age 18 and older (1983 and 1990), QUITREGGR reports about how long it has been since the person last smoked cigarettes fairly regularly. Please see universe tab for detailed information about who was asked this question.
Comparability
There are minor changes in the universe statement between years, as outlined in the Universe tab, which impact the comparability of this variable over time. Users are advised to consider the impact that changes in the universe may have on their analyses when using data from multiple years.
Universe
- 1978; 1980: Sample persons age 17+ in quarters 3 and 4 who ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their entire lives, who ever smoked regularly, and who do not smoke now.
- 1979: Sample persons age 17+ who ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their entire lives, who ever smoked regularly, and who do not smoke now.
- 1983: Sample persons age 18+ who ever smoked 100 cigarettes and do not now smoke cigarettes.
- 1990: Sample persons age 18+ who were not asked the smoking questions in the Pregnancy and Smoking section.
