Description

For all families, HIRESP reports whether the respondent who answered questions on insurance coverage was reporting information for themselves or was proxy reporting for others in the household. Usually one person from each household was asked to report for all members of the household, so the majority of data were proxy reported.

Comparability

HIRESP is comparable over time. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
