Description
For all persons covered by some "other" government health plan HIOTHGOVE (i.e., not Medicare, Medi-Gap, Medicaid, CHIP/Children's Health Insurance Program, Military health care, Indian Health Service or a State-sponsored health plan), this variable indicates if the person can go to any doctor who accepts this plan, or if they must choose from a list of doctors, or if the doctor is assigned.
HIOTHGOVDOC reflects responses to HIOTHGOVE that have been edited based on plan names. NCHS staff noted that some of the verbatim responses to a question on the name plan indicated plans that were clearly private health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, military coverage, Indian Health Service, single service plans, or no coverage at all. Persons with these forms of coverage were reassigned to the appropriate enrollment recodes. The frequencies reported in HIOTHGOVDOC reflect individuals correctly assigned to "other" government coverage, based on the plan name.
