Description
For sample adults who delayed, had trouble, or were unable to get care from a hospital emergency room during the past 12 months (ERDELAYR), ERDHPNOPAY identifies those who reported that the delay was due to concern that their health plan would not pay for such care.
Sample adults who indicated that they had delayed, had trouble or were unable to get care from a hospital ER were asked, "What were the reasons you delayed or had trouble getting care from a hospital emergency room?" From a flashcard, respondents selected all reasons that applied.

Other reasons for delay, and the associated variables, are the following:
