Description
For sample adults who were told they had cancer (within the past ten years for 1992), CANTREATHI reports whether the person had health insurance that paid for treatment of their most recent form of cancer. For 2010, this question was asked only of persons who received some form of treatment.
CANTREATHI was first introduced as part of the Cancer Supplements in 1992 and 2010. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
Comparability
This variable is not comparable over time. For 1992, respondents were instructed to exclude health insurance coverage provided through Medicaid or Medicare. For 2010, respondents could consider any public or private insurance that paid for part or all of the treatment. See the Universe tab for more specific descriptions for each year
