Description

For sample adults ages 18 and older, BUTRNO reports how many times the respondent ate butter on her/his food (e.g., on bread, rolls, or vegetables) in the past year. Interviewers indicated to respondents not to include the use of margarine; margarine use was reported through a separate question later in the survey. BUTRNO should be used in conjunction with BUTRTP, which reports the corresponding time unit stated by the respondent. Researchers may also want to use BUTRSIZ, which reports the corresponding portion size.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.

Universe
