BLOODGAVYNO2 is a topcoded variable that reports the number of times that the sample person gave blood in the past 12 months.

In 1973, this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 17 years and older who gave or sold blood to a blood bank, hospital, Red Cross, or anywhere else during the past 12 months (BLOODGAVYR).

In 1978, this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 17 to 64 who gave or sold blood to a blood bank, hospital, Red Cross, or anywhere else during the past 12 months, or whose blood donation status is unknown (BLOODGAVYR).

In 1990, this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 18 years and older who have ever donated blood (BLOODGAVEV) and have donated blood since March 1985 (BLOODGAVE85).

In 1991, this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 18 years and older who have ever given or donated blood (BLOODGAVEV) and have donated blood since March 1985 (BLOODGAVE85), and who have donated blood in the past 12 months (BLOODGAVYR).

In 1992, this inquiry was directed at half of sample persons age 18 years and older who have ever given or donated blood (BLOODGAVEV) and have donated blood since March 1985 (BLOODGAVE85), and who have donated blood in the past 12 months (BLOODGAVYR).

Comparability

Aside from the differences in universes there are no comparability problems with BLOODGAVYNO2.
