Description

For sample persons aged 18 and over who have had a blood test for the AIDS virus infection (and who got the results of the blood test in 1991 and 1992), ATLCONFID reports if the respondent feels that the confidentiality of the results of his or her most recent test was handled properly.

Please refer to the Universe and Comparability tabs for more detailed information on changes in the universe of the variable.

Comparability

Changes in the universe may affect the comparability between 1990 and subsequent years. In 1990, this variable included sample adults who ever had a blood test for the AIDS virus. In 1991 onward, only sample adults who ever had a blood test for the AIDS virus and who actually received the results from their blood test were included in this variable.

In 1991 onward, there were changes in the survey design that might affect the raw frequencies but should not affect comparability between samples. As always, data users should apply prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
