Codes and Frequencies
Description
For sample persons age 18 and older AIDEDRED indicates if, in the past month, the person received information about AIDS from the American Red Cross.
This variable is part of the NHIS supplement on AIDS knowledge and attitudes. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
Comparability
The wording changed slightly between 1993 and 1994. In 1993, persons were asked if they received AIDS public service announcements or information from the American Red Cross in the past month. In 1994 and 1995, persons were asked if they received brochures from the American Red Cross.
Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
