Description
For sample adults who had practiced yoga, Tai chi, or Qi gong during the past 12 months (YTQYOGYR, YTQTAIYR, or YTQIGYR) and who had used yoga, Tai chi, or Qi gong for a specific health problem (YTQTREAT), YTQNOCONV identifies those who had received no conventional medical treatment for the condition for which they most used yoga, Tai chi, or Qi gong (YTQTCONMOST).
The survey question for YTQNOCONV collected information about the use of specific conventional medical treatments for the condition for which yoga, Tai chi, or Qi gong was used the most, if the person had received conventional medical treatment. The specific treatments asked about were:
- Mental health counseling (YTQCOUN)
- Prescription medications (YTQPMED)
- Over-the-counter medications (YTQNPMED)
- Physical therapy (YTQPT)
- Surgery (YTQSURG)
Interviewers asked, "Did you receive any of these conventional medical treatments for [condition for which yoga, Tai chi, or Qi gong was used the most]?" and entered all treatments reported by the respondent.
For more information about the full range of variables related to yoga, Tai chi, Qi gong, including definitions, see YTQYOGYR.
