Description

For persons sample persons aged 18 and older who are trying to lose weight or trying to maintain their weight, WTOTHER reports if the person uses a method other than those suggested by the survey to control his or her weight. Weight control methods mentioned in the survey include joining a weight program, eating fewer calories, eating special products such as canned or powdered food supplements, exercising more often, eating less fat, skipping meals, taking diet pills, taking laxatives, taking water pills or diuretics, vomiting, fasting for 24 hours or longer, and doing nothing.

Please refer to the universe tab for changes in the universe.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g. quarter in which a question is asked) affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
