Weight controls methods mentioned in the survey include joining a weight program, eating fewer calories, eating special products such as canned or powdered food supplements, exercising more often, eating less fat, skipping meals, taking diet pills, taking laxatives, taking water pills or diuretics, vomiting, fasting for 24 hours or longer, doing nothing, and some other methods.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g. quarter in which a question is asked) affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
