Description

For persons sample persons age 18 and older who are trying to lose weight or trying to maintain their weight, WTEXERCISE reports if the person exercises more often to control his or her weight. Please refer to the Comparability and Universe tabs for changes in the universe.

Comparability

In 1985 and 1990, this question was asked only to persons who are trying to lose weight. Beginning in 1991, the question was asked to sample adults who are trying to lose weight or maintain their weight. This universe change limits comparability between samples.

Changes in survey design (e.g. quarter in which a question is asked) affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
