Description
For sample persons ages 18 and older who were employed in the last two weeks, and who reported to be exposed to at least five harmful substances at work that could endanger her/his own health, WEXSUB5 reports the fifth type of such a substance. See the Codes tab for response categories. Persons could report up to six such substances, and for each substance, they could report up to four ways their own health could be endangered as a result of it.
This variable was introduced in 1985 as part of a series of variables with information on occupational safety and health. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
