Description
For persons under 18 in households where the sample person knew approximately what temperature the hot water is, WATEMPAPROXCH reports whether the sample adults in the child's household would describe approximate temperature as high, medium or low. These terms were respondent-defined. Persons could report the approximate temperature in categories or in degrees. The answer provided by the household sample adult was applied to the person record for any children under age 18 in the household; children's records should not be interpreted as meaning that the child knew the temperature of the hot water in their home.
WATEMPAPROXCH was part of the Health Prevention and Disease Promotion supplement periodically included in the NHIS which helped measure national goals towards the Healthy People Initiative of the U.S. Surgeon General.
