Description
For sample adults ages 18 and older who ever had a voice problem that lasted a week or longer, VSLVOTHER reports if the person was told that her or his voice problems were caused by something other than the response categories included in the survey. These listed causes include laryngitis caused by voice misuse, laryngitis caused by colds/strep, vocal nodules or polyps, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, allergies, airborne irritants, head/neck injury, cancer anywhere in the head/neck/throat, neurological causes, and prescription medication or drugs.
VSLVOTHER is part of the Adult Voice, Speech and Language Supplement. For related variables and more information, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus, or see VSLDIAG, which reports on diagnosis, VSLVDAYS, which reports on the problem duration and extent, and VSLVSLPYR, which reports on treatment.
