Codes and Frequencies
For sample adults ages 18 and older, VSLSPYR reports if the person had a speech problem in the past year, such as stuttering, repeating words, or not being able to pronounce words properly. The questionnaire further specified that this question refers to the language in which the person is most comfortable, not a foreign language.
VSLSPYR is part of the Adult Voice, Speech and Language Supplement. For related variables and more information, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus, or see VSLDIAG, which reports on diagnosis, VSLVDAYS, which reports on the problem duration and extent, and VSLVSLPYR, which reports on treatment.
