Description
For sample adults, VAIDRIVETV indicates whether the individual uses glasses or contacts to "drive, read road and street signs, watch TV, or see things in the distance." Please see the Universe tab for more information on changes in universe over time.
This variable is included in the Sample Adult Vision Supplement, sponsored by the National Eye Institute.
Comparability
In addition to changes in universe, the NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
Universe
- 2008; 2016; 2017: Sample adults age 18+ who wear glasses or contacts.
- 2023: Sample adults age 18+.
