Description

For sample adults and sample children who had an H1N1 flu vaccine, VAC1H1N1MODE indicates whether the vaccination was administered by injection or by nasal spray. In the case of sample children, VAC1H1N1MODE indicates the administration method of his or her most recent H1N1 flu vaccine.

The survey questions associated with VAC1H1N1MODE were removed from the NHIS in August 2010. At that time, they were replaced with VACFLUMODE (for sample children only). This replacement variable identifies the administration method for the sample child's most recent flu vaccination, regardless of whether the vaccination was for H1N1 flu or for seasonal flu.

The related variable VAC2H1N1MODE indicates the administration method of sample children's second most recent H1N1 vaccine dose.

VAC1H1N1MODE is part of a series of variables introduced in 2010 dealing with immunization. For other related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
