Description

For sample persons age 18 and older who ever had an ulcer and ever saw a doctor for the ulcer, ULCTYPEPSTOM is a recoded variable that indicates if she/he was ever told by a doctor that she/he had a gastric, duodenal, peptic, or stomach ulcer. This variable is recoded using information from other variables that asked about each type of ulcer separately.

This variable is part of the 1989 Digestive Disorders supplement, fielded to provide data on the nature and prevalence of symptoms attributed to disorders of the lower digestive tract in the adult population. The data provide prevalence estimates on certain common digestive disorders and complaints.
