Description

For sample adults aged 18 and over who reported having at least two top alternative medicine (CAM) therapies and reported using their second CAM therapy to treat a specific health problem, symptom, or condition, TOTH42 reports if the person used the second of her/his top three therapies to treat a fourth other health problem. TOTH42 can paired with CAMTHER2, which reports the corresponding CAM therapy that was used to treat this other health problem. Comparability

The condition for sample adults in TOTH42 comes from an "other-condition not elsewhere classified" response category in the sample adult alternative health supplement. Sample adults could report up to four other conditions treated by their second top CAM therapy: two conditions automatically filled from previous sections in the survey (TOTH12 and TOTH22), an "other-specify" condition (TOTH32), as well as "other-condition not elsewhere classified" (TOTH42).

Sample children could only provide a single other condition treated by their second CAM therapy, "other-specify", which is not included in TOTH42. The specific conditions that correspond to each of these other condition are not available. The sample child "other-specify" condition variable has been combined with the first automatically filled sample adult variable in the TOTH11, TOTH12, TOTH13 variables as they are the first, and only other condition reported for sample children, even though the description of this other information source more closely matches that of the sample adult variables TOTH31, TOTH32, TOTH33.
